CV/Bio
Floyd Limbos has both loved and photographed nature for over thirty years. Studying painting and drawing at the Art Institute of Chicago in the 60's, he continued his studies at Northern Illinois University in the graduate program.
A self-taught photographer, he began to use the camera, more and more, viewing his subjects through a lens, but with the eye of a painter. After photographing in black and white for more than fifteen years, he began to experiment with color. Today, he photographs and prints in color, using specific processing materials to achieve a desired quality of image and richness of color.
His work includes landscapes of mountain, desert and forest - vistas photographed during one of his many journeys out West. But his work also concentrates on the more intimate and sensuous revelation of the flower.
When printing, he uses a variety of techniques from single image to manipulation of that image for effect. He also combines two or more images, merging landscape with flower, to create an exceptional effect. "I look at the image as an understanding revealed. I observe, interpret, manipulate and juxtapose in order to enhance the meaning."
His photographs are held in private collections, sold through galleries and one man shows, and purchased, individually, for commercial printing. Most recently, his image, "Desert Dreams," was used, commercially, to promote Apple Color Sync. And his work has represented The Philadelphia Flower for the last four year in their posters, banners and brochures.
